Gender Justice: Protection of Rights of Women

Objectives: The course intends to provide a brief outline of laws relating to the rights of women. It aims toacquaint students on the various legal provisions relating to the rights of women under the Constitution and Statutory Law.

• Political Rights, Economic Rights and Social Justice

• Equality, Right to Livelihood, Right to Live with Dignity, Right against Exploitation
• Directive Principles of State Policy
• Equal Justice and Free Legal aid
• Women’s Representation in Local Bodies

4. Law Relating to Crimes against Women: An Overview of Indian Scenario (7 hrs)

• Protection of Women under Indian Panel Code, 1860
• Indecent Representation of Women [Prohibition] Act, 1986
• Laws relating to protection of women under Domestic Violence Act, 2005
• Protection of Women in Cyberspace

5. Laws protecting Women at work place including special provisions of Labour Laws (5 hrs)

• Equal Remuneration Act, 1976  
• Maternity Benefit Act, 1961
• The Sexual Harassmentof Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

6. Property Rights of Hindu Women (5 hrs)
