Five Decades of Legal Education

KLE Law College, Bengaluru was established in 1975 under the aegis of the Karnatak Lingayat Education Society to meet the growing need for quality legal education in Bengaluru. Conceived as a centre for preparing students to enter the legal profession, the College began its academic journey with the introduction of the three-year LL.B. programme.

From its inception, the College has sought to combine a strong understanding of legal principles with professional training, ethical development and social responsibility. Over the years, it has created an academic environment in which classroom instruction is supported by advocacy training, legal research, internships, moot courts, legal-aid activities and interaction with members of the Bar and the Bench.

Expansion of Legal Education

A significant milestone was reached in 1996 with the introduction of the five-year integrated B.A. LL.B. programme. The programme enabled students to commence their legal education immediately after completing their pre-university studies and combined the study of humanities and social sciences with professional legal education.

Responding to the changing requirements of the corporate and commercial legal sectors, the College introduced the five-year integrated B.B.A. LL.B. programme during the academic year 2011–12. The academic portfolio subsequently expanded to include the B.Com. LL.B. programme, postgraduate programmes in Constitutional Law and Intellectual Property Rights, and advanced research through the Ph.D. in Law. The College presently offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral opportunities within a comprehensive legal-education framework.
