KLE Law Journal (KLELJ)

The KLE Law Journal (KLELJ) is the flagship annual peer-reviewed law journal published by K.L.E. Society's Law College, Bengaluru. It has been widely published since 2014, covering a broad range of issues associated with the law, the legal system, and allied social sciences. The journal is indexed under ISSN No. 2348-2834 and is freely accessible to researchers, practitioners, and students worldwide.

KLELJ provides a platform for original, rigorous, and socially relevant legal scholarship from academics, advocates, legal professionals, and students across India and internationally. The journal publishes contributions in the form of long articles, short notes, legal essays, case comments, legislative comments, and book reviews on contemporary legal issues.

Submission Guidelines

Who Can Submit

The KLE Law Journal invites submissions from:

  • Law teachers, faculty members, and academics
  • Advocates and practising legal professionals
  • Legal scholars and researchers
  • Postgraduate and doctoral students (LLM, Ph.D.)

The journal is open to submissions from India and abroad. There is no submission fee at any stage.

Abstract & Keywords

For Long Articles, a structured abstract of 150–200 words must be included, clearly stating purpose, methodology, key findings, and conclusions. Authors must also list 5–8 keywords below the abstract.

Cover Letter Requirements

All submissions must be accompanied by a separate cover letter containing the following (this information must not appear in the manuscript itself, to preserve double-blind review):

  • Title of the manuscript
  • Full name(s) of author(s)
  • Designation and academic qualifications
  • Institution / University / Law Firm / Organisation
  • Full postal address
  • Email address and mobile number
  • Category of submission
  • Declaration of originality

Citation Style

All submissions must follow the Indian Law Institute (ILI) Citation Style for footnotes and references. Key requirements:

  • Citations must be placed as footnotes (not endnotes), numbered sequentially
  • Footnotes: Times New Roman, 10 pt, single line spacing
  • Use ibid., supra, and op. cit. where appropriate
  • Case citations must follow standard Indian citation format (AIR, SCC, SCR, etc.)
  • Internet sources must include full URL and date last accessed

Plagiarism & AI Policy

  • Combined similarity index (Turnitin or equivalent) must not exceed 15%
  • AI-generated content must not exceed 15% of the total text
  • Self-plagiarism (re-use of own previously published work without attribution) is prohibited
  • Manuscripts exceeding these limits will be summarily rejected

Declaration of Originality

"I/We hereby declare that the manuscript titled '[Title]' submitted to the KLE Law Journal is an original work of the author(s), has not been previously published in any form, and is not currently under consideration for publication by any other journal or publication. I/We further declare that the manuscript does not violate any intellectual property rights of any third party, that proper attribution has been given to all sources used, and that the similarity index does not exceed 15%. Advisory Board

The KLE Law Journal's Advisory Board comprises distinguished legal scholars, senior advocates, retired judges, and academics from leading institutions across India. [Details to be added.]

Advisory Board members provide guidance on the editorial direction of the journal, suggest thematic areas, and support the peer-review process by referring appropriate reviewers for specialised submissions.

Peer Reviewers

The KLE Law Journal maintains a panel of peer reviewers comprising faculty members of leading law schools, practising advocates, and legal scholars with recognised expertise. All submissions are reviewed by two independent reviewers under a double-blind process. Reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors, nor are author identities disclosed to reviewers.

Peer reviewers are selected on the basis of expertise in the subject area of the submitted manuscript. The Editorial Committee co-ordinates the review process and communicates decisions to authors.

Peer Review & Publication Process

All manuscripts submitted to the KLE Law Journal undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process. The identities of authors are not disclosed to reviewers, and reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors. The editorial process ensures fairness, independence, and scholarly integrity at every stage.

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Submission

    Author submits manuscript along with cover letter and declaration through the submission portal or email.

  2. Initial Desk Review

    The Editorial Committee checks compliance with formatting requirements, ISSN policies, plagiarism limits, and overall suitability. Non-compliant or out-of-scope manuscripts are returned at this stage.

  3. Plagiarism & AI Check

    Manuscript is screened using plagiarism detection software (Turnitin). Manuscripts exceeding the 15% similarity or AI content limit are rejected.

  4. Assignment to Reviewers

    The manuscript (with author details removed) is sent to two independent expert peer reviewers with relevant subject expertise.

  5. Peer Review

    Each reviewer evaluates the manuscript on originality, academic rigour, clarity of argument, relevance, and adherence to citation norms.

  6. Editorial Decision

    Based on reviewer reports, the Editorial Committee communicates one of: (a) Accept as is; (b) Accept with minor revisions; (c) Major revisions required; (d) Reject.

  7. Revision

    If revisions are required, the author is given a fixed timeline to revise and resubmit. The editorial committee reviews the revised manuscript.

  8. Final Acceptance & Publication

    On final acceptance, the author receives an acceptance letter. Copyright transfer is completed. The article is published in the relevant volume (print and/or digital).

Review Criteria

Manuscripts are evaluated by peer reviewers on the following criteria:

  • Originality and novelty of the research question or argument
  • Depth of legal analysis and academic rigour
  • Clarity and structure of the argument
  • Relevance to contemporary legal discourse
  • Quality of language and writing
  • Completeness and accuracy of citation
  • Compliance with journal formatting and style requirements
  • Adherence to ethical standards (originality, attribution, plagiarism norms)

Review Timeline

The review process typically takes 4–8 weeks from the date of receipt of a complete and compliant submission. Authors are notified of the decision and, if applicable, reviewer comments within this period.

Editorial & Ethics Policies

Originality Policy

The KLE Law Journal only accepts manuscripts that are original works of the submitting author(s). Manuscripts must not have been previously published in whole or in part, in any print or digital medium, and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere at the time of submission.

Simultaneous Submission Policy

Submissions must not be concurrently sent for publication to any other journal, edited volume, or publication during the period of review. A declaration to this effect must accompany every submission. Breach of this policy will result in immediate rejection and may result in the author being barred from future submissions.

Plagiarism & Academic Integrity Policy

All submissions are screened for plagiarism and AI-generated content. The permissible combined limit for similarity index and AI-generated content is 15% each. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism — whether from external sources or self-plagiarism — will be rejected.

Authorship & Attribution

All individuals listed as authors must have made a genuine intellectual contribution to the manuscript. Ghost authorship and gift authorship are not permitted. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have reviewed the final manuscript and consented to submission.

The views expressed by the contributors are their own personal opinions and do not represent the views of the institution, the editorial board, or K.L.E. Society. No part of this publication may be reproduced or transmitted in any material form without the written permission of the copyright holder, viz., K.L.E. Society's Law College, Bengaluru – 560 091.

Copyright Policy

Upon acceptance of the manuscript, authors are required to execute a copyright transfer to K.L.E. Society's Law College, Bengaluru. Authors retain the right to use their accepted manuscript for academic purposes (e.g., inclusion in thesis, posting on personal academic profile with attribution) provided the journal and volume of first publication are clearly cited.

Open Access Policy

The KLE Law Journal is an open-access journal. Published articles are freely accessible to all readers online at no cost. No publication fee or article processing charge (APC) is levied on authors at any stage.

Correction & Retraction Policy

In the event of a significant error or ethical concern in a published article, the Editorial Committee reserves the right to issue a corrigendum, erratum, or retraction notice. Authors are encouraged to promptly notify the editors of any errors discovered post-publication.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The KLE Law Journal does not charge any fee at any stage — submission, processing, review, or publication. This policy has been consistently maintained since inception.
The journal is open to academicians, advocates, legal professionals, researchers, LLM and Ph.D. students, and undergraduate law students. There is no restriction based on institutional affiliation or geographic location.
All submissions must use the Indian Law Institute (ILI) Citation Style. Footnotes (not endnotes) must be used. A template is available from the editorial committee upon request at klelawjournal@klelawcollege.org.
Yes, co-authorship is permitted for Long Articles, Short Notes, Legal Essays, Case Comments, and Legislative Comments, with a maximum of 2 authors (including the principal author). Book Reviews must be single-authored.
A paper presented at a conference may be considered for publication, provided it has not been published in a proceedings volume, journal, or any other medium. The author must disclose prior presentation in the cover letter.
The combined plagiarism similarity index must not exceed 15%, and AI-generated content in the manuscript must also not exceed 15%. Submissions exceeding either limit will be rejected.
At present, the KLE Law Journal accepts submissions only in English. Indian spelling conventions are acceptable.
